Featured Project
Waterlink at Pier 27
Queens Quay East, Toronto
This condo project redevelops the site of a former industrial shipping terminal and connects the city through to the waterfront with its distinctive structure.
Both building consist of a pair of 11-storey towers joined by an occupied 3-storey steel bridge truss structure containing premium units. Each truss spans over 30m between the towers and the ends of the trusses are cantilevered over the towers (except at the east end of the site). The longest cantilever, on the east side of the west building, is over 18m.
To withstand the lateral force of winds coming off Lake Ontario, the trusses are diagonally braced. Each truss has a sliding connection to the tower at its east end, which offsets minor expansion and contraction in the structure between Toronto's hot summers and cold winters.
At 39 Queens Quay East, a feature wall along the eastern edge of the site provides visual and acoustic insulation from the neighbouring Redpath facility.

The buildings sit on top of a shared foundation and parking garage. The footings were excavated through layers of reclaimed land to rest on the natural undisturbed soil below the original lakebed. A continuous perimeter caisson wall surrounding the foundation adds extra protection against hydrostatic forces.
