Wood
Materials: Wood
Wood is one of the oldest building materials and remains a practical choice for low- and mid-rise construction to this day, as it is an endlessly renewable resource. In addition, technological and engineering advancements continue to make wood stronger, more efficient, and able to take our designs to new heights.

WOOD
Material Types
At Jablonsky, we work with several types of wood materials, usually in combination with other materials. Stick framing (i.e. traditional lumber) is still an economic choice for structural design of low-rise buildings such as townhouse blocks. We have also worked with a number of engineered wood products that combine wood fibre with epoxy for added strength and durability. Heavy timber was used extensively in post and beam framing in early 20th century industrial buildings, and its strength and low environmental impact have led to renewed interest in its use.

WOOD
Advantages of Wood
Wood materials is a renewable material and can be sustainably managed. Wood products are often locally sourced, and wood building elements can be assembled in prefabricated sections before being brought to site for a decreased construction schedule. With proper maintenance, wood structures can last for hundreds of years.
