Transit Coordination
Applied Knowledge: Transit Coordination
New construction in urban areas needs to impose as little disturbance as possible to its surroundings, including public transit infrastructure. Transit infrastructure includes subway tunnels and stations, open cut rail lines, bus stations and stops, and streetcar lines. The ongoing trend to build near transit hubs for increased density only intensifies the need for sensible coordination.

Transit Coordination
Designing around Transit
Since the 1970s, with the tower at 2 Bloor St E directly atop the Yonge-Bloor subway interchange, we’ve worked closely with municipal and transit officials to design solutions that satisfy codes and standards. We consult archival drawings to determine the depth and location of existing transit infrastructure, which is key to preparing drawing and specification packages that demonstrate to the local authorities that the new building will not impact the existing infrastructure.

Designing for Transit
Our building projects near existing subway lines may include new station entrances or emergency tunnel exits in the below-grade levels. We are also regularly involved in discussions to establish strategies and sequencing for remediation work to transit infrastructure and tunnel daylighting.
